weird screen colors- x wont start- cant get video card working- livna ati frglx rpm

after upgrading to FC5, i now want to get my video acceleration working. I installed the livna ati frglx rpms and kernel mod via yum. This package had worked well for me in FC4. This time however, as soon as my computer tries to start X or rhgb, it spits out a popori or random colors to the screen, fades to grey, and then becomes visually unresponsive.
The only thing i can really do is press ctrl-alt-del and wait for the computer to reboot. upon reboot the same thing consitently happens. so i have had to used the rescue cd to revert to my old /etc/xorg.conf and atleast i can boot again, but still no video acceleration.

my card is this:
MOBILITY RADEON X300 (M22 3152)

has anyone else had this?
any help on how i can fix this an make it work?

I found a solution to the problem.

I have installed the Drivers from the ATI Homepage.
First I downloaded the full driver Pack from ]here and run them as root. Tt first failed because the driver identified my X version as 7.0.0 and there is no proper option for that. Then I used the 6.9 driver with this command
X_VERSION=x690 sh ati-driver-installer-8.24.8-x86.run

Than changing the Driver in the X.org.cong back to fglrx and restarted my system. It works perfect for me eG I can play UT2004 again.
