k3b + growisofs DVD burning speed

Hi,
can anybody change the burning speed when writing ISO images onto DVD-R with k3b? So far I've tested only DVD-R and DVD-RW media and it seems that growisofs (both 5.21 and 6.1) burns them with the maximum possible speed for the media regardless of the actual "-speed" parameter. However this sometimes fails because my system isn't fast enough.

I found this with google: Keep in mind that growisofs speed selection code works as following: ask
firmware for supported speeds for this media, take lowest for 1x,
multiply it by -speed factor and find the *closest* speed in the list
from the first step. Meaning that -speed=1 doesn't really mean set 1385,
but rather "pick the lowest speed." And so does -speed=0.5...

Does this mean that in case the inserted medium supports 4x, 6x and 8x burning, and I select 2x speed in k3b (which will result in "growisofs ... -speed=2") growisofs will burn the DVD with 8x speed?

I didn't try the commandline, but with K3b I can select the speed with no problem: I use 16x media (Verbatim/TDK - mostly dvd+, for dvd- is the same) and burn them at 4x if I want.
I use growisofs 6.1 and K3b 0.12.15 on FC5 (kernel 2096smp/2122up).
