WAG511 (NETGEAR) wifi card install/detect problem

I have just installed FC5 with 2.6.16-1.2096 kernal (updated from the iso kernel which was 2054). The isntall went fine but I cannot get the wireless card to be recognized. The in-built ethernet card shows up as etho0 and works works fine, connects to internet via the wired connection.

I have tried to install the madwifi rpm but after download and install a message says the dependencies are incorrect and aborts.
Am I on the right track or is there a simple way to get this card installed and working. I will be connecting to a Linksys AP, WPA PSIK in my home.
Can someone take me thru this step by step - I'm a newbie and would appreciate the support.
Many thanks
brarko

I would give the 30 day trial of the driverloader wireless tool a try. You can find it at www.linuxant.com. For 19.00USD I find it a quick and easy way of dealing wih the wireless issue. They also provide top notch support for you to get things going. Once installed, it just works.

Hi,

I have a box under Ubuntu on which I managed to activate a Netgear WG311v3 wireless card. For this, I used 'ndiswrapper'. This program enables the use of window drivers under linux. ndiswrapper is also available under FC5 (search in the forum, quite a few threads are related to it).

You could also check the Ubuntu wiki which explains how to set it up.

Bye.

Quella - Thanks for the suggestion. I tried the trial driver you recommended. installed it but it froze my system when it came time to install the Windows driver for the card, so I had to abandon the install by a full reset of my laptop.

yserge, thanks, but my card is WAG511, not WG311 - the ndiswrapper doesn't work for my card. Apparently it is the Atheros chipset.
