Upgrade to 2.6.16-1.2107 causes boot hang...

Hi,
I just upgraded to kernel 2.6.16-1.2107 via yun this evening and rebooting the
system causes a "hang".

I get an "X' in the middle of the black screen but no progress on the boot.

I found a workaround was to <ctl><alt><bs> This killed the X server display
and the boot proceeded in a text mode to the end.

At this time the login screen appears and everything seems to be working.
I have a HP DV4000 Centrino based laptop.

Any suggestions on how to get booting back to normal?

I removed allot of things from my original bootup I didn't like the gui boot so I got rid of that I wish I knew what package it was but I have no idea. I slimmed and trimmed my system removing things with chkconfig thing_I_don't_need off after rebooting and checking that all worked as I wanted I did a chkconfig --del thing_I_don't_need and or removed the package completely with rpm -e or yum remove

I have the exact problem with the new kernel 2.6.16-1.2107 update.
The boot hangs on switching to gui boot screen.
Which log file should I refer to for the problem? Please help I'm a noob Thank you in advance
EDIT: well seems there's problems with the new kernel. see this thread.
