Unhappy Gnome Lockups

Hello all,

I'm running a Toshiba Satellite A55, with celleron 1.4ghz, 1 gig ram, my problem is this.

Gnome applications, and tool bars seem to randomly hang for no apparent reason. I can ALT+Tab around them, and eventually get them closed down by forcing them to quit or killing them. But at times the effect seems to cascade and comprimises gnome its self and I have to CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE and restart X.

System specs are as follows:
Linux biohazard.orbital 2.6.17-1.2145_FC5 #1 Sat Jul 1 13:03:45 EDT 2006 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
Gnome Version 2.14.2
Xorg-X11-Server Version 1.0.1-9 FC5.5

When these lockups happen, cpu usage spikes, and runs at 100% until I can kill the locked up app, or until I restart X. I have not found any reason for these lockups in the log files, but then again I may be missing something.
