Convert .cbr to .jpg?
I was curious if there is a way to convert a .cbr file (electronic comic books), of which I have several, to a series of jpg files so I can view them on my PSP? At the very least, does linux have a .cbr reader so I can view the comics?

Search on gnomefiles.org returned cbrPager. I'm sure there are others.

I saw that one, it lets you look at them but not convert them. I supposed I could snap each screen and then crop them to fit my PSP. <shrug> hehe. Certainly not worth using Windows for. :P

a .cbr file IS jpeg images that have been put into a .tar, .rar or .zip archive. I'd try this:
- Open up Nautilus ( Gnome's file browser )
- Right-click your file
- Open With Other Application
- Select "File-Roller" or "Archive Manager", whichever is there
- Extract the .jpegs

Firewing you are a friggin genius.  That worked awesome. Now all I have to do is batch them out in Gimp to make them 480x272.

Heh, even faster - there's a nautilus-image-converter extension you can install to batch convert images resolutions on a right-click - Install it with:

not sure if that's the one I found or not... I found a way to use the Image Magick CLI tools, something called morgrify, to batch them like this....
#mogrify -resize 480x272! *.jpg
But I didn't like the results, the text is too blurry, so I am going to make them double height, and then break them apart into double pages, so I can get a nice readable 480 wide comic image, it will just use 2 pages to display the entire original page.

ALong the same lines... hehe... what about converting PDF files to a series of JPGs I can then view on the PSP? Im attempting to make my PSP my single portable instead of carrying 3 different devices, so far I have music, video, games, web browsing, RSS and my specialized web scripts make up the rest, now if I can lick this ebook/comic thing Im flippin golden.

If you're using custom firmware you can keep a hombrew program called Bookr used for ebooks, I'm using it on my PSP to keep myself entertained at work.... Lub my PSP ^_^

Glad you got the first part sorted, similarly .cbz files are zipped archives of image files (rather than rar archives, the images can be in various formats including jpg, gif and png.
For the second part, the livna repo includes comical, which is a great comic book reader, and can handle cbr, cbz, rar and zip archives as well as straightforward directories of images
