latex

hi @ all,

I downloaded Fedora Core 1 yesterday and have a problem: The command 'latex' is unknown.

I downloaded the package 'tetex-latex-1.0.7-57.i386.rpm' and tryed to install it.

But it is said that I need the package 'tetex'.

Trying to install 'tetex' I get the statement that tetex is already istalled...

I would be grathfull for any help.

When I started with TeX and Linux I tried to use the RPM of tetex. I did get them to work, but found they were really I minimal set of packages from TeX/LaTeX. My best advise is to go to www.tug.org\texlive and install the "inst" version. Download the image, mount it, and then follow the directions.

It seems that the publishing items haven't been selected when installing the OS. Now, you can install them from any APT repository with full distribution, like "freshrpms.net" or " atrpms.physik.fu-berlin.de" if your distribution lacks any packages with dependencies.

thank you both for the answers.

It didn't work with the gui, but then I tryed out yum and it worked.

It's quite simple then

If somebody gets the same problem:

Just open the terminal and enter "yum install tetex-latex".

Some updates will be downloaded and the latex will be installed.
