what is the best method for file transfer between two servers?
Hi there guys,
I've got two servers. The old one has a site(about 2 gigs worth) of files, and I want to zip it up, and move it to the new server. I have a couple of questions:
The new server runs FC4. I've gotten applications by the commandline before on my local computer. If I zip up the files on the old server, is there a command I can use on the new one to move the zip file over without having to download/upload(kind of like fxp, I guess)? 2 gig is a crapload to transfer.
Also, is that size zip going to give me problems? Do I need to do it in stages?
Finally, what would be the command I would use to zip all of the contents of a directory I'm sitting in, keeping the dir structure? As an example, I don't want to zip up httpdocs, because then I'll get everything put into a subdirectory called httpdocs. How do I zip up all of the contents of httpdocs while not getting that folder as the parent folder?
Any suggestions on the best way to do this would be muy appreciated.
thanks,
json

If it's only a one time transfer, don't bother with rsync, it won't buy you anything, but if you will be transfering the same files frequently and want to keep them in sync, rsync is great for that.
