Removable Media

Hi,
Using FC5 and opening the 'Computer' folder on the desktop I can see the Cdrom and DVD Writer icons along with File System and Network. It seems a bit strange that to make the Floppy Disk Drive visible requires an entry in /etc/fstab. Wouldn't it be better to use the same method as the other removable drives? There is no direct reference to cdrom devices in /etc/fstab.
John.
