It's interesting how what comes around, comes around again and again and again.
I in the tested group of Compuserve's version of this back in 1994 (I think that was the year)
it was 2D back then and I used a 56k modem.
I think you are refering to the Linux (alpha) client for this thing, is that correct?
If so it isn't Linux is a program that lets you run their software on Linux.
I run secondlife on f10 64 bit... kinda a ***** to set up and then getting voice working but it all runs fine now. used early nvidia drivers and then upgraded to that latest. fixes the problem with not finding all the 32 bit drivers etc.....
also use the hippo viewer as i can crank up the netowrk settings to 10meg.. this helps with all the rezzing but sl still has it famous LAG.....
good luck set aside a few days to get everything running the way you want :-)

After finally getting my Nvidia drivers to work I downloaded the latest beta of Second Life.
It works fine without any tweaks or fiddling. Don't much care for starting it from the command line but I'm sure there's a fix for that (newbie here!)
Running on F9 with an 8800 GFX card.
