Wireless, centrino laptop

i know there's been topics already posted on this subject but i cant seem to make sense of them. i am a complete beginner to this linux game and i had ubuntu before FC6 and the wireless worked with no problems.
however. Fedora 6 isnt even picking up i have anything wireless on my computer by the looks of things. just says 'check cable'!

a simple step by step guide would be of much help
thanks!

Hi,

If you are running an i386 system, it is possible that your problem will be fixed simply by installing the firmware for the card.

Go to rpm.livna.org to download the firmware.

http://rpm.livna.org/fedora/6/i386/r...w/I.group.html

You probably need the ipw2200 if you have an Intel Pro/Wireless 2915BG card.

So download the ipw2200-firmware-3.0-1.lvn6.rpm

Open a terminal and cd to the directory where you have downloaded the ipw2200.... rpm

Become root:
su
password

Then install the ipw2200...rpm:
rpm -Uvh ipw2200-firmware-3.0-1.lvn6.rpm

Then try to connect to your network with System -> Administration -> Network

In devices, you should see a line with "Wireless" at the far right.
Make sure there is a tick at the far left in the profile column and then click on activate.

You may or may not have to edit the hardware or device configuration but the default settings are often enough to ge you started.

Hope this helps.
