    Stanton Finley's FC5 guide and FC6

Stanton Finley's guide to FC5 basically works with FC6 with a few minor changes:

    http://stanton-finley.net/fedora_cor...ion_notes.html

    Sun's Java is now jre1.6.0

Realplayer still needs: yum -y install compat-libstdc++-33

And I prefer to download this version:

    https://helixcommunity.org/download....50401.i586.rpm

Multimedia codecs is now at version:

    http://www4.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/rel...061022.tar.bz2

and the version of mplayerplug-in WITHOUT the old Realplayer plugin 9 is:

    http://fedoranews.org/tchung/mplayer...1.fc5.i386.rpm

Maybe someone else can add links to the video drivers, etc.

    Thanks sir.

I actually sent Stanton a PM today to see if he was going to be doing a guide for version 6. It's a nice place to begin for me after a brand new install.

I almost installed 6 today on my regular hard drive, but then realized that FC5 is running great for me, so not sure why I felt I needed 6. Who knows, give me a few days and I will probably have it loaded

It's been mentioned in another thread or two that Stanton's moved to Ubuntu. He mentioned that if he found time between life and other things he'll try and update his page for FC6. But, as I say, there's very little difference and using his guide, these updates and a bit of common sense will get everything up to speed

    Cheers

Yes, Stan's guide is still pretty good and thanks for the additions and corrections. We'd love to have him stay with FC forever but if he's happy with Ubuntu, then that's great. We really can't expect him to keep installing FC just for his tips, after all. The News has the info that Max is updating the FAQ and there's also extremely good info on FC-6 here: http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mjm-fedora-fc6.html . Also hopeful that this excellent guide: http://easylinux.info/wiki/Fedora will soon be updated. It's still early yet, folks!

Awesome... thanks for the new mjmwired link Bob. They're usually the place i direct people to for things such as disabling unneeded services.

I'm an old stick-in-the-mud and Stan's tips were the first ones I found while Googling for adding multimedia codecs, etc, when I first installed FC5. I kind of find it hard to change to someone else's tips page that's why I posted the updated links, etc, to Stan's FC5 guide

As of yesterday (Saturday) I am officially and 'old-fart'

Right, it's off to a school bazaar to help raise fund for the PTA by drinking copious amounts of Bass beer and eating ethnic foods

    Cheers

And Wayne, happy Belated Old Fart's Day! You may have only become 'Official' yesterday, but if you have children, you've had the label for quite some time.

Mjr; if you go to Stanton's site, open to the FC-5 (or other version) page and at the bottom you'll find a comments section where you can join and post your request. You can also send an email to him.

He's a Community Manager, yes. Your comment may be seen by him, but it's more likely to be received if you email him or go to his personal site. As was mentioned, Stanton's moved over to Ubuntu, so he may not be on the Forum as much anymore.

Thanks Bob, nice to know I'm officially an official old-fart

Spent most of the day drinking Bass beer at the British booth at the bazaar, carried away a case of 12 cans at a good price as there were a few cases left over. Spent the evening in a pub that serves micro brew. Beer was in good condition but the prices weren't Luckily I wasn't paying

Got Michael Jackson's BEER book as a pressie. All in all a good day.

Now I'm doing 3 days worth of laundry

    Cheers

Wayne, that sounds like my kind of a day! (especially the 'not-paying' part) Have fun with the suds.
