Opteron processors

Hi,
I apologize if this question has been asked and answered before, but I'm building a new computer based on the AMD Opteron processor (dual-core) and would like to know if Fedora Core 6 likes these processors. It is going to be a 2 processor dual-core Opteron system.

Hi. I'm just dropping in because I'm looking at getting one of the new AMD2 systems set up soon, and I too want an answer to this. This way I'll be notified of any other responses.
Just off the top of my head, though.....
It should work well. Dual processor and dual core processors work well, but I'm kind of iffy in the dual dual-core thing.

Don't worry, either of you. Fedora Core "likes" Opterons just fine, wether they are single- or dual-core variants. Two DC Opties will work just swell.

Thanks both of you for your reply. That's what I wanted to know. Now I can start building my system with confidence. I was a Suse Linux user up until recently and though I still think it's a great distribution, after trying Fedora Core 6 I've changed my mind about Suse. Fedora Core 6 is simply much better.

A good motherboard for 2x opterons is a tyan thunder if budget permits

I was considering the ASUS K8N-DL server motherboard. Tyan makes good motherboards, but Asus motherboards are as equally good as Tyan's and cheaper (219.00 USD). I'm using an Asus motherboard right now and never had a compatibility problem, not even under Solaris 10.
