Acer Aspire 5100

I have an Acer Aspire 5100 That I picked up during the Black Friday Sales after Thanksgiving.

It has this pretty nifty built in web cam in the lid.

Has anybody out there seen this device, and more importantly - have any of you managed to get it working in FC6? That was one of the major selling points of the laptop for me - so that I can do video conferencing when I am on the road.

Thanks

Andrew

Need to find out if the camera is recognized first. Open a terminal windows and su - (su dash) to root, the type yum install usbutils. When completed type lsusb and post the results, it should look something like this:

[root@localhost ~]# lsusb
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 0ac8:301b Z-Star Microelectronics Corp. ZC0301 WebCam
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 002 Device 003: ID 046d:c50a Logitech, Inc.
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

Depending on the camera, there is a generic driver (gspcav1) that supports many different chipsets, it what I use and works fairly well.

Thanks Mike - I'll give it a shot, though this is not I suspect a USB camera - it is actually built into the lid of the laptop.

But I will run those commands when I get home and get back with you.

Ok - This is what I have
[root@The-Brain sbin]# lsusb
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 0402:5602 ALi Corp.
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

Currently I have NO usb devices plugged in - So I must presume that the ALI Corp is the camera?

Mine is built into the lid also, although it is a Sager not a Acer, What's a ALI corp device. Looks like it might be a cam since it is on the bus, irq etc as mine. Look at this website to see if you can determine the chipset. You might be able to use the gspca drivers from here:
