FC6 yum update missing dependency: dbus 0.61 needed by dbus-qt

Since auto updates using yum-updatesd doesn't seem to be working, I decided to run yum update by hand - this on a stock FC6 box. This eventually throws the error

--> Processing Dependency: dbus = 0.61 for package: dbus-qt
--> Finished Dependency Resolution
Error: Missing Dependency: dbus = 0.61 is needed by package dbus-qt

I've got the following repos installed in yum.repos.d

fedora-core.repo
fedora-updates.repo
livna-testing.repo
fedora-development.repo
fedora-updates-testing.repo
fedora-extras-development.repo
kde-redhat.repo
fedora-extras.repo
livna-devel.repo
fedora-legacy.repo
livna.repo

Am I missing a repo for this?

Bo

Hello:
Do you have the development repo(s) enabled by default?

Hi Seve.

No, devel repos aren't enabled. Should the be? Enabling them seems to be setting up to install some fc7 packages. I don't think that's what I want to do given the nature of my box - it's my gateway server and it needs *not* to break

As I dig a little deeper, I see that dbus-qt.i386 version 0.61-4.fc5 is already installed.

Bo

Hello:
No you don't want to have the development repos enabled, unless you want to live dangerously.
I only asked as I could not find any match for yum list | grep dbus-qt
I am using FC6 32bit
with core,extras,livna repos.

Edit:
I just noticed that you found a .fc5 version installed ? Is this correct?
And are you running FC6 at the moment?

I'm currently running FC6 upgraded from FC5 back in early November.

The version that _was_ installed was listed as 0.61-4.fc5. It was only 92k in size and seemed to have only placed files in share/docs. Apparently it was not updated during the FC5 -> FC6 process.

I removed it and am re-running yum update.

Checking on http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pu...pdates/6/i386/ shows that there is a dbus-1.0.1-1.fc6.i386.rpm, and in the FC5 updates folder there is a dbus-0.61-3.fc5.1.i386.rpm. Neither matches what was on my system. Hmmmmm.

Hello:
Well, hopefully it sorts itself out. There is or rather there has always been a liitle bit of luck involved in updating a release versus a clean install.
You might want to run
yum list installed | grep -F .fc5
to see if you have any more rpms left over?

That's a great idea.

I've been pretty unhappy with upgrades for a while, primarily because I made a choice, years ago, to split my DNS into internal and external zones. At some point in the past, yum started trashing my perfectly working split-zone configuration by replacing it with a default fedora single zone version. Imagine waking up in the morning only to realize that a nightly update broke things in a major way. I finally gave up my split-zones and hopefully won't have to deal with that again.

Thanks for your conversation as I've worked through this problem. Sometimes just having another voice makes all the difference in the world.
