Upgrading to Dual Core Opteron

I will be installing an Opteron dual core into my machine which currently is running Fedora Core 6 on a single core Opteron. Is it possible with a Yum update to get the kernel to change to smp? I am hoping I don't have to reinstall to take advantage of the second core. Anyone have any recent experience with this??

You shouldn't have to change a thing if you're already running an x86_64 kernel. The FC6 x86_64 kernel is already SMP aware.
