Convert DVD to AVI

Has anyone ever got this conversion to happen? I have used 3 different packages from yum and all fail.

First I tried DVD::Rip - this program always freezes on the grab preview portion. If i paste the code into the terminal transcode just hangs. This i guess is more of a problem of transcode unless dvd::rip is making a bad command.

I also tried K3b. - this program give me the "K3b could not mount <>. Please run K3bSetup" error. and i cant figure out what the heck K3bSetup is! the debug info is this

Code:
System
-----------------------
K3b Version: 0.12.17

KDE Version: 3.5.5-0.2.fc6 Fedora-Core
QT Version: 3.3.7
Kernel: 2.6.18-1.2869.fc6
Devices
-----------------------
_NEC DVD+RW ND-1100A 1.H1 (/dev/hdd, ) at [CD-R; CD-RW; CD-ROM; DVD-ROM; DVD+R; DVD+RW] [DVD-ROM; DVD+RW; DVD+R; CD-ROM; CD-R; CD-RW] [SAO; TAO; RAW; SAO/R96R; RAW/R96R]
I also tried OGMRip this program will rip into avi files but i dont get any audio. If i rip to other formats the picture quality is bad.

With all programs I want to rip Xvid w/AC3 audio.

If you can help with any one of these problems that would be great. This is the only thing making me keep my windows partition going.

Thanks,
mitchell

Thanks Seve,

Avidemux is certainly a great little (and easy to use) program for converting video. I'm surprised it's not talked about more than it is.

Hello Scotta3234:
I have used it for a while now and it works great for me.
I am not a huge user or by any means a vididiot however, it seems to be a great app.
