Question WindowsTitlebars have lost icons and ...

For some months this installation has performed almost flawlessly, recently I changed themes
When I opened up a desktop folder I noticed that the folder had none of the buttons at the top (maximize.minimize/close) just a colored strip.

When I could once move this around the desktop I could select with the left mouse button and while holding it move it around the desk-top

If the window size wasn't what I was after I could move the pointer to an edge, the pointer would change and I could drag that edge to expand or shrink the window (or pick the lower right hand corner and drag to gain both height and width)

Now I have lost the icons and the mouse functions

'Simple', I thought to myself, 'just go back to the old theme !', but sadly that proved not to be the case.

Reversion to the previous theme changed only the look of the desktop and the windows none of the functions returned.

So I was wondering how do I get the buttons back and move the windows without doing the <alt> keyboard thing, not to mention the re-sizing ?

And that applied to all windows and all applications eg: Firefox has to be closed with the file/quit drop-down menu, etc etc

Now this may be interesting
I can have a titlebar (the one above is a fetching blue with 'FedoraRorum.org-WindowsTitlebarshavelosticonsand... - Mozilla Firefox' and the minimise/maximise and close icons (or are they called radio buttons ?) the window can be moved/resized with the mouse
By using metacity (Gnome Window Manager)

OR

I can have the full spinning cube/transparent wobbly windows eye-candy package by using the Beryl window manager

but I can't seem to work out how to have both
