Urgent needing help no gui!!!

My friends pc running fedora core 6 64-bit when it starts all services will ask for login commandline style no gui when inputed i tryed startx but got

Fatal server error:
Server is already active for display 0

NO HE IS NOT RUNNING DUAL SCREENS this was working perfect until we installed graphics drivers

Yes it works but is there any way it can be set to default go into the gui?

edit: when we enable desktop effect teh tops of the windows are not shown.

At the command line, as root, type:

init 3 <enter>

then

system-config-display <enter>

go through it's dance, when it's done, do

init 5 <enter>

Should be good - don't forget you're logged in as root.

edit the /etc/inittab file and change the line

id:3:initdefault:

to

id:5:initdefault:

save and exit

u will normally login in the graphcial mode.

Quick Q whenever desktop effects is enabled the tops of the windows dont show as in i cant drag them correct drivers are installed.

Just reinstalled his drivers and desktop effecs not working sorry for the double post kind of bumping...

I've had the same prob eith the desktop effects and no window trim. Found this here someplace - fixed it for me

gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/compiz <enter>

many a thanks!

edit - i dont want to open a new thread for this because then u guys would think of me as a spammer but one last question i am not getting sound with certain .mkv videos i have tried with totem xine and vlc plus i have win32 codecs installed i think they are using ac3 audio not sure
