Hi all,
I have this sad story... I had FC6 on my laptop, downloaded the Live CD with Fedora 7 and run it. Hit "install to hard drive" and it got me into the installation. When it reached the partitioning part, I told it to leave alone the two data partitions I had, and format /boot only.
So far so good... But - it did not find the previous Fedora version there and did not run an "upgrade", just installed there as if the partition was empty. The second one was just storage, so it remained, but the first one - which was "/" - was practically wiped out, together with my home directory, all sorts of data etc.
Now, as I mentioned, it was not formatted... So, the data is actually there. I tried
PhotoRec and it did find some stuff (jpg files), but not all, and not those I needed anyway. Still, they are there...
TestDisk reports the partition as "bad" and doesn't open it. GParted says it's type "unknown". The new Fedora installation runs from it...
The old data is also there, somewhere...
Any idea how to recover it?
