Bcm43xx to Atheros: Wpa_supplicant issue

I gave up with ndiswrapper and bcm43xx on an old laptop with an old(er) wireless card. (Fedora 7) I bought a Atheros based card and got it working without encryption. However, now when I try and start wpa_supplicant, I get error messages linked to wlan0, which doesn't exist anymore. Atheros uses ath0.
Etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf doesn't have any mention or link to wlan0.
Anyone know how to break the link?

Cheers

Yeah - serious mistake - do NOT toy manually with the WPA supplicant. That's a formula for a headache.

You should enable the NetworkManager & NetworkmanagerDispatcher services and then use the notification area icon to config your wireless connections. NM will use this to form a valid supplicant config andn then launch the supplicant.

I assume you're using madwifi for the Athleros - works well IMO.

This is insane. I've spent a week on and off working on this. I have the Atheros card working ...but not with WPA. The amount of "sifting" through "stacks" of web pages is ridiculous....and I can't find one clear cut HOW-TO.
And this is coming from a guy who has used Fedora since core 3 AND has a pci based wireless card working perfectly with ndiswrapper!
Nothing in Fedora has ever been this hard to solve.

If you start wpa_supplicant daemon with 'service wpa_supplicant start' or the daemon it's on in runlevel 5 (or whatever runlevel you are trying), there is a configuration file with information about your interface and drivers which is on /etc/sysconfig/wpa_supplicant. I have an Atheros based card and this is my configuration:

# wlan0 and wifi0
# INTERFACES="-iwlan0 -iwifi0"

INTERFACES="-iath0"

# ndiswrapper and prism
# DRIVERS="-Dndiswrapper -Dprism"

DRIVERS="-Dmadwifi"

I hope this information can help you.
