Screen goes blank after using desktop a few minutes

I just installed Fedora all seemed to go well till after a few minutes of use. I was logged in and started to view a few things on my desktop when my screen went blank and I received a message "Out of scan range".

I'm able to Ctrl-Alt-F1 and get to a terminal session and each time I return to the graphical view a few seconds to minutes the screen goes blank.

I searched and found were this could be a config problem in my /etc/X11/xorg.cong file and it was recommended that I insure the Vertical and Horizontal values were correct. I didn't see these values in the file.

I would like to learn more about the values and setting in this file could someone help by letting me know were I could find such information.

By the way the hardware that is having the problem is:
ATI Radeon X300 video and SDM-X72 Sony display.

Thanks

The monitor refresh rates go in the "Monitor" section - see http://www.x.org/archive/X11R6.8.0/d...f.5.html#sect9.

According to http://www.docs.sony.com/release/cc/SDMX72_cc.pdf, your refresh rate entries should be:

HorizSync 28-92
VertRefresh 56-85

But whatever you do, make a backup of xorg.conf before editing - a tiny error can completely disable your X-session! Choose a name that does not already exist as X backs this file up every time it starts, whether good or bad and could therefore blat your copy..

Thanks, I was able to get things to work by doing what you recommended and also applying latest patches.

Thanks again
