Question need a brief overview on installing software..

Does anyone know of a good place to learn the basics. I need to learn how to install software and compile from the .tar.gz and such... Any help would be awesome. Thanks

With Fedora, you should really use yum: http://docs.fedoraproject.org/yum/en/ as it will handle the dependencies and place everything properly. It's also going to be the easiest when you need to remove packages. However, that's not what you asked, so here's a bit of a tutorial:
