Unhappy mount could not find filesystem

Hey guys,
I'm in a spot of bother (as the English would say). I finally decided to switch completely over to linux for good and so I tried to change a windoze partition to linux ext3. Didn't do enough reading about it and now I'm going to pay for the consequences.
I still love linux and its users and will re-install everything if need be.

Anyway, been reading a bit about LVM problems while checking to see if there is anyone as stupid as me out there but am slowly slowly giving up (I feel like shooting myself )

After playing around with LVM I now get this error when booting:
Uncompressing linux ok booting the kernel
Redhat version 5.0.32 starting
Reading all pysical volums...
Couldn't find device uuid "twe........
Can't find all physical volumes for volumegroup VolGroup01
Volume Group "VolGroup00" not found
Unable to access resume device /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol01
mount could not find filesystem /dev/root
setuproot:moving /dev failed. No such file or directory
setuproot:error mounting /proc: no such file or directory
setuproot:error mounting /sys: no such file or directory
switch root: mount failed: no such file or directory
kernel panic: not syncing. Attempted to kill init
.

Some info on my system:
120gb hhd
20gb windows c:
80gb windows d:
19dg linux fc5
1gb swap space

Was trying to change to 80gb to linux ext3.
Any help would be greatly appriciated!

It sounds like you removed the MBR on the partition reformat. I Don't think there's anything you can do to save windows, but you can restore grub so you can at least boot. This post tells you how.

Now might be a good time to upgrade from FC5 to F7 though since it's (FC5) not supported anymore.

Thanks fo your interest. Some more info.
I don't think I removed MBR because windows still boots.
I'm not really interested in the windows files. It's the linux stuff I want back if possible.

What I was trying to do, was remove the second windows partition.

If I boot with Knoppix cd I can see the following partitions
Hda1 (Windows c: ) - works ok
Hda2 (Windows d: ) - works ok
Hda3 (Grub files - I think its the swap partition) - works ok
hda5 - does not work

Anyone?

Had a smiliar happening to a server at work becuase it could find the /boot directory...The smart person had me fix it with a command I THINK was "e2label"

This thread has some info on it http://forums.fedoraforum.org/forum/...bel+filesystem although It doesn't exactly match your problem I think it may be a good starting point.
