Exclamation IBM thinkpad R60 - Intel Pro adaptor 'disappeared' on update to kern 2.6.22.5-76.fc7

I ran update including to latest kernel. Everything was working perfectly before.

Now ipw3945d installed, running (ps -C ipw3945).

Wireless connection was inactive - hardware missing.

Intel Pro Adaptor is no longer listed in the available manufacturer list of adaptors.

On boot the sys log reports:

Sep 16 10:30:37 xxxx-Laptop02 kernel: iwl3945: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG/BG Network Connection driver for Linux, 0.1.8kd
Sep 16 10:30:37 xxxx-Laptop02 kernel: iwl3945: Copyright(c) 2003-2007 Intel Corporation
Sep 16 10:30:37 xxxx-Laptop02 kernel: iwl3945: Detected Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection
Sep 16 10:30:37 xxxx-Laptop02 kernel: iwl3945: Could not read microcode: -22
Sep 16 10:30:37 xxxx-Laptop02 kernel: ACPI: PCI interrupt for device 0000:03:00.0 disabled
Sep 16 10:30:37 xxxx-Laptop02 kernel: iwl3945: probe of 0000:03:00.0 failed with error -22

Any help on how to proceed from here will be deeply appreciated.

Hey, out of desperation again executed command

/sbin/modprobe ipw3945

confirmed running then again

/sbin/ipw3954d

For some reason after a delay Network manager added wireless.

I was able then to switch to wireless and in the Network panel the hardware device was Active.

Despite the device being present and running the internet connection was down.

I then added the eth1 using the GUI utility in Adminstration/Network -rebooted and everything works again.

Weird!!! but just in case some other poor sod has the same experience perhaps this will help.
