    Angry Are Fedora mirrors corrupted?

    Hello everybody.

For several weeks now my Fedora 7 x86_64 system has been experiencing a really annoying problem. I use GNOME, and when I log in I am promptly informed about the updates available, however when I allow pup to install them it takes ages to load. There already is a thread here dealing with "pup loading slow", but I made a little bit more of research.

If I load yumex (after closing pup) I notice it also starts very slow because it usually attempts to download a presumably corrupted file:

This time I was not lucky and did not get any file to work (so I am without updates). I believe that comps-f7.xml file carries information about packages and its download is necessary each time yumex starts, but then I wonder, why, if it is that important, are only corrupted copies hosted?
Is it a common problem or just my system?

Assuming it is my system's problem, how can I make yumex ignore checksum?

Fortunately I have broadband, but imagine the pain in the @$# to download a 1.1MB file multiple times just to figure out it is corrupted and does not work.

    Thanks.
    Joe.

    try this:

    yum clean all
The answer to all of lifes questions are buried somewhere in the Google search engine.

    Code:
    [Stephen@localhost ~]$ whatis this?
    this?: nothing appropriate

So this is just a temporary problem related specifically to yumex? Because I have the same problem. Normal yum from the terminal works fine though.

Edit: Seems to be fine now.

Disabling the update's repo would solve the problem, wouldn't it?

I have the same problem. So far I have not found a solution. The super weird thing is, this is a fresh install. Also, I have installed several vmware versions with that very same CD and they all worked fine.

In my case it just went in a loop and I notced after 1.5GB traffic....caused by just that single file...

I believe you tried to update MULTIPLE times, because there are not as many Fedora mirrors.

By the way, after a while enjoying a stable YUM/PUP performance, it is on it again: the $@%$ comps-77.xml is corrupted again.

I think that if you disable the Updates repo everything should run fine in case you wanna install something in a new Fedora installation.

    Thanks.

The solution for me for the moment was to go into /etc/yum.repo.d and edit the fedora-update.repo file

comment out the mirrorlist line and instead uncomment the baseurl line (i am telling this from memory, dont have a reference here right now)

afterwards yum got the working file from the redhat server
