Exclamation Updates? Do they work?

I have Fedora Core 5 on an old Gateway. When ever I go to do updates, it doesnt work. It gets resolving dependices and then stalls out. Why cant I update my system. I will be upgrading to FC6 in a few weeks, will FC6's updates work? Thanks in advance!!

Fedora has a short lifespan now. They only support the current version +1. With new versions coming out about every 6 months (or so) that means you will only have support for about a year. Since Fedora 8 will be out in November (last I heard), I would skip FC6 and go to Fedora 7. About a month after Fedora 8 is released there will be no more updates for FC6.

Good Luck

I was thinking about going right to FC7. I looked on the mirror sites and only saw it listed under updates, without the ISO's. The only ISO's I saw were for DVD. Can you only put it on DVD? The old bomber PC on run Linux on doesnt hav a DVD drive. Do I have other options?

The complete install cd set concept has been dropped. You can use the live cd to do the install and then yum install the other packages.

Oh well, thats a good idea in saving CD's. Another question, I installed the MP3 plugin from this website. I then installed Banshee player from the same site. The Mp3 plugin doesnt work on RythumBox or Banshee. Why not? I sat here and waited while it did all that stuff through Terminal. Is there anything else I have to enable?

Yes, you do. Unity offers both DVD and CD (5 CDs set) respin downloads, but you need jigdo to download them (yum install jigdo).

Hey guys, guess what? I got the MP3 plugin to work. While reading the TOP of the page that I got it from, I had to install someother little thingy. Now it work and Im soo happy. Got my music, Evolution to get my mail, I love FC5!!! The only problem I have with it is, a new version comes out all the damn time, then I have to start from square one. Oh well, Im in a vocational high school taking IT and our teacher is a Lunix freek. Which means I will have to work with it SR year. Better to get a head start I guess. Thaks for all your help!!!

If you want a slower release schedule but have code just like
Fedora you can try Centos:

www.centos.org

Centos is a free version of RedHat Enterprise LInux, and so it's
less bleeding edge than Fedora
