network card MAC address

Hi
I would like to be able to gain access to the raw MAC address of the network card. I know that you can use ioctl commands to obtain the MAC address. However I also know that you can change the MAC address on the system by using the ip command. I would like to obtain at runtime the raw MAC address of the network card. Is there anyway of easily doing this?

Thanks for your help
Phil

Hello im not exactly sure what you mean but, you can install a program called macchanger via yum,(yum install macchanger), which can be used to see and change your mac address etc.

I would like the raw MAC address from the ethernet card.

Thanks
Sorry for not being very clear. What I'm looking for is a way to obtain the raw MAC address from the network card. If somebody changes it (using e.g. macchanger) I would still like to gain access to the original network cards MAC address, not the modified one.
