Sometime, fedora 8(final) can not resolve dns until replug in the cable. At that time I can not connect to any website using domain name but ip works well. Someone has this problem?

Hey,

Could you provide some details about your network setup? ie does your modem (adsl/cable) use dhcp? and dynamic dns?? When you say "sometimes" what does this mean?? Can you post the output of your /etc/resolve when dns is working and then also when dns is not working. I would also check /var/log/messages for any hints as to what is happening.

might try simply resetting your modem and see if that fixes the problem?

resetting modem or re-plug the cable solve the problem for a while(1-20 min). adsl at home and lan in my office both have this problem.

Go to system/admin/network. With your device selected click edit. Uncheck Automatically obtain DNS information from provider. Click Ok. Then, with your device selected, click deactivate. Click yes at the pop up. Click on DNS tab. Enter your primary dns from your provider, if not present. Then for secondary and teriary DNS enter these: 208.67.220.220, 208.67.222.222 Click the device tab, click activate and yes.

You could enter these in a different order if your providers DNS is consistently slow/unavailable. Those two DNS are from opendns.

Then you have a connection problem. Not a dns problem.

If you are using a router I would hazard a guess that your dhcp is borked. I would try setting static ip's by mac address in your router. See if that helps.

EDIT: Something else you can do to determine the location of the problem is ping your router, then your modem if your modem is also a router, then an external ip, then a website by name.

What you want to do is let it run a few packets and see if you lose any. You stop the pinging by pressing "ctrl+c".

Do you use NetworkManager and NetworkManagerDispatcher? If you do so, turn them off. I also have ip and dns problems when they are running.

Do you have IPv6 enabled? If so, try turning it off.

Has switched off all aforesaid - the problem has remained.

I establish connection - all ОК. As soon as I close a window of network adjustments - there is their preservation and connection vanishes.
