F8 : No Shutdown in menu, Login Screen is weird, Can't Shutdown only reboot

I'm using Fedora 8 Test 3 and have since updated it a few times using software updater.

suddenly, since 2 days ago, i came upon a few problem

1. there's no Shutdown in the System panel menu

2. The login screen is somewhat different, i didn't see the normal login screen of Fedora 8. There's no option to shutdown on the login screen, only reboot and suspend.

3. There's no username on the right side of the top panel, only time and speaker icon, and of course a few small icons like compiz-config etc.

i tried to locate the login theme launcher in the menu but couldn't find it....

i also tried to locate if the launcher is hidden from the menu by checking the menu configuration but it's not there....

The command to change the login (gdm) theme is "gdmsetup".

Code:
[root@Athlon-X2 ~]# gdmsetup
bash: gdmsetup: command not found
[root@Athlon-X2 ~]# locate gdmsetup
/usr/share/desktop-menu-patches/gnome-gdmsetup.desktop
[root@Athlon-X2 ~]# /usr/share/desktop-menu-patches/gnome-gdmsetup.desktop
bash: /usr/share/desktop-menu-patches/gnome-gdmsetup.desktop: Permission denied
any idea?

when you switch to root do it like:
Code:
su -
not
Code:
su
or
Code:
su root
I think that's probably the problem...

Maybe your path isn't setup, try:

# /usr/sbin/gdmsetup

Or maybe (unlikely) the package is not installed:
# yum list |grep gdm
...
gdm.i386 1:2.20.1-5.fc8 installed
'''
