Crazy Hard Drive Clicking

On my HP DV2620, I get a crazy clicking noise in the hard drive like every 30 seconds. I found on some Ubuntu forum that it's something to do with the Power Management and the read/write head parking.

I issue the command /sbin/hdparm -B /dev/sda and it doesn't do it anymore, but everytime I boot, i have to reissue it just like /sbin/ifconfig wlan0 up.

Does anyone know how to fix this, or how to run the command at boot?

On the ubuntu forum they had guys saying that their hard disk went bad in a year because of this

Any help is really appreciated, thanks.

Evening Don.

Try searching for a recent thread with posts by resistor200.

I think he had a fix for it. I'll post this then go hunt it up.

EDIT:
OK. There we go.

Hey thanks alot for the fast response. I'm happy you could help me, i've only had this laptop for about a week and the Load cycle count is already 3057! and the start stop and power are at around 50.

Hopefully this will extend the life of the drive
Guess I better not drop it while it's on!

Thanks again

You're very welcome, Don.

Like Mike said, if you drop it while it's turned on ... a hard drive headslap may well be the least of your worries! <....>
