Package Manager Errors

Hey!

I recently got into Linux (Linux is really popular at RIT) and have installed Fedora 8. For some reason I keep getting an error when using the package manager to install RPM's:

Quote:
Component: pirut
Summary: TB2d8305f8 threading.py:94:acquire:RuntimeError: maximum recursion depth exceeded

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/sbin/system-install-packages", line 355, in <module>
main()
File "/usr/sbin/system-install-packages", line 351, in main
pkginst.run()
File "/usr/sbin/system-install-packages", line 339, in run
self.doRefresh()
File "/usr/sbin/system-install-packages", line 98, in doRefresh
self.populatePackages()
File "/usr/sbin/system-install-packages", line 279, in populatePackages
self._populateLocalPackages(locals)
File "/usr/sbin/system-install-packages", line 154, in _populateLocalPackages
self.tsInfo.addInstall(po = po)
File "/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/yum/__init__.py", line 535, in <lambda>
tsInfo = property(fget=lambda self: self._getTsInfo(),
File "/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/yum/depsolve.py", line 83, in _getTsInfo

it keeps going on from there (would not let me post everything but I hope this gets the point.
I did a google search and found one English site talking about the same problem, something to do with Python... but did not help. The other sites were not in English so they were not any more usefull lol.

Thank You

Bryce,

Hello Bryce, and welcome to the Fedora Forum.

I can't resolve your specific problem with using pirut (heck, I'm still running FC6), but this workaround may help you out. As root
Code:
yum install yumex
Yumex is a GUI front-end replacement for the package manager which adds some additional features as well. It should let you, hopefully, add software, etc, until your present problem is resolved.
