Changing the screen resolution on thinkpad t61

All,
I cannot change the resolution on thinkpad t61 from its current setting of 1280x800 to 1440x900.

My thinkpad has the nvidia NVS 140M graphics card. I have installed all the nvidia drivers/latest kernel

The nvidia control panel lists 1280x800 as the max resolution. I even tried to change my monitor type to "generic LCD with 1440x900" using the display config but nothing works. (the latter does not update xorf.conf)!

Was anyone able to get 1440x900, or any resolution other than 1280x800, to work on their thinkpad t61?

The motiviation behind this is that many of my IDEs have multiple windows and with this current resolution everything seems very big.

Thanks

This problem existed since Fedora Core 8. I just installed Fedora 10 and the max/default resolution in 1280x800. Right now I just reduce the size of the window text and icon size so that everything seems smaller

System->Preferences->Look and Feel->Appearance->Fonts (window and icon text size)

Open the File Browser and choose: Edit -> Preferences
- In the "Icon View Defaults" section, set the desired (50% for example) "Default Zoom Level"

Native 1400x900 does not seem to be supported

That's a pretty major bug. I'd file a report on that. 1440x900 isn't that uncommon. 1280x800 works fine on my Thinkpad.
