Trouble Getting UPS to Register
Hi, I recently purchased a UPS which came with Linux drivers (Great! I thought), however, I'm having trouble getting them to work. The UPS works fine in Windows, so I know the hardware is not the problem.
I'm using the UPSilon 2000 drivers available from http://www.megatec.com.tw/Download.htm#UPSilon&RUPS . I had to modify the install script a little, it was trying to use a command "uncompress" .
When I start the Daemon, I get the following:
Code:
[root@lambert ~]# /etc/upsilon/upsilon start
Set Signal Complete
Initial Config Complete
<UPSilon>
Copyright(C) 1998 Mega System Technologies, Inc.
Ver. 2.1
Start Running!
UPS Adapter No Response!!, type [upsilon stop] to stop this process
There is a config file which looks like:
Code:
AC Fail Delay ( 1 ... 1440 min. ) : [1]
Batt Low Delay ( 1 ... 10 min. ) : [1]
Turn Off UPS Delay ( 0.2 ... 10 min. ) : [0.2]
Battery Rating ( 12.0 ... 96.0 v ) : [0.0]
UPS Comport ( /dev/xxttyxx ) : [/dev/ttyS0]
Turn Off UPS? ( 0 - no, 1 - yes ) : [1]
Schedule Function ( 0 - off, 1 - on ) : [0]
Countdown Function ( 0 - off, 1 - on ) : [1]
Communication Mode ( 0-Port, 1-SNMP ) : [0]
SNMP IP Address ( xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx ) : [127.0.0.1]
SNMP Community Name ( e.g. public ) : [public]
On the bold line, I tried all the values /dev/ttyS0 to /dev/ttyS3 as these seem to be my USB ports:
Code:
[michael@lambert dev]$ ls tty*
tty tty14 tty20 tty27 tty33 tty4 tty46 tty52 tty59 tty8
tty0 tty15 tty21 tty28 tty34 tty40 tty47 tty53 tty6 tty9
tty1 tty16 tty22 tty29 tty35 tty41 tty48 tty54 tty60 ttyS0
tty10 tty17 tty23 tty3 tty36 tty42 tty49 tty55 tty61 ttyS1
tty11 tty18 tty24 tty30 tty37 tty43 tty5 tty56 tty62 ttyS2
tty12 tty19 tty25 tty31 tty38 tty44 tty50 tty57 tty63 ttyS3
tty13 tty2 tty26 tty32 tty39 tty45 tty51 tty58 tty7

ttyS# are not Usb ports but rather the serial ports.

Oh really, I just assumed Universal Serial Bus meant it was one. What should it be?

Listing the /dev/usb* entries is useless, show the output from "/sbin/lsusb -v".

I'm really confused, the URL you had goes to a page that seems to suggest the
software is for UPS's with Serial ports as in RS232:
http://www.megatec.com.tw/Product_list.htm#UPSilon
So I guess you mean you UPS is the Upsilon RUPS? The manual says the
ports are DB9
That's the old style 9pin port that extermal modems use. But then you seem to say in post #1 that the UPS has a USB port or that you're expecting to be using USB ports:

On the bold line, I tried all the values /dev/ttyS0 to /dev/ttyS3 as these seem to be my USB ports:

So I think you just got mixed up between serial and usb.
. Can you tell me what exact model and make the UPS and confirm
that the port is USB or RS232 ? I really think your port is serial RS232 because
the config file you quoted lists ttyS# entries and those have nothing to do with USB.
The port will be have 9 or 25 pins

Sorry, I just found this in the manual:
Code:
When select USB interface as communication port, only
Windows 95/98/NT/2000/Me workable.
That's really annoying, that means I now need to find a USB type B to DB-9 cable .

instead of using the supplied drivers, try out the Network UPS Tools
yum install nut nut-client
