gconf-editor

is there a reason its not working on my fedora box?

ive had fedora 8 on this box 3 times now. The first 2 it worked like a charm, and now it doesnt.

FYI, im trying to get the icons off my desktop (computer, home folder, and trash)

anyone know why / how to fix it / another way to get the icons off?

Yes, there is.

Go to Yum or Add/Remove Programs and install the gtweakui packages

Then from the menu: System>Preferences>GtweakUI-Nautilus. Check or uncheck per your preferences.

I just used gconf-editor and it worked... is that a bad thing... is GtweakUI the 'new' way of doing this?
