Change Hostname?

How do I change the hostname from localhost.localdomain. If i put in a static IP, it appears to change it for me off of DNS records, but how do I set it manually? Thanks

temporary use:
su -
hostname newhostname


permanent, change the "HOSTNAME=" line in /etc/sysconfig/network

As root, use the hostname command:

# hostname my_name

Try that, then see if it survives renewing your IP address. Cheers, PM
