Memory allocation problem during install (FC1)

Hi everyone. I just registered on this forum because, well, I need some help to install Fedora Core 1. Here's the problem...

Just before starting the actual installation (formating hard drives and copying files), I get an error. It tells me that the installation couldn't allocate memory and there's a bunch of code debugging. I can't save the crash dump on a floppy (it just doesn't work). What I want to know is why it crashes like this and how could I solve this problem?

If it helps to solve my problem, here are my system specs :

Pentium 133
80M EDO D-RAM
First hard drive : 2 Go
Second hard drive : 30 Go
First CD-ROM drive : 8x Fujitsu
Second CD-ROM drive : LG 52x-32x-52x

Thanks in advance.

Damn, this computer is a little poor for FC1 I think...
You could try like RH7.3 or something

I ran Red Hat 7.3 on a machine less powerful than that, so it will work. X graphics won't go very fast on any install with this machine, however.

Speaking of graphics, did you do graphical install? That would quickly use all of your memory, and you are well under the recommended 192 MB. (Does the installer use swap space?) Maybe try text install?
Code:
linux text
at the installer prompt.

I ran both graphical and text installations and they both did the exact same error.

As for memory, my computer runs games a P300 wouldn't run. So I don't think running X would be a problem. The graphical installation itself was running quite smoothly.

The error message... I can't remember it well but it was something like this :

Error. Couldn't allocate memory.
[Bunch of code debugging, stuff like "error on gotonext() on line 122"]
Errno #12 (yeah, it's really the word errno)

I thought I could try a hard disk installation. Would it work?

Unfortunately, I think you need about 128Mb to install just about any "main-line" Linux distro these days - and trying to run X in less than 256Mb is... problematic (can you say swap?)
