Firefox, yum and other apps don't work after updates

After updates, rebuilding and installing some packages (including openssh, openssl, nss) and removing some wireless drivers I'm not able to use yum, rpm, Firefox and other applications. I'm getting this error message: Speicherzugriffsfehler (which is German for memory access error). Firefox gives me the error report attached to this post. However, these errors are a bit sparse, and a rollback is difficult since rpm won't work .

I have no clue what caused that, let alone how to fix it. I'd be thankful for any help or suggestions pointing me in the right direction.

I'm sorry, that was a long shot. It didn't show anything unusual. Maybe try rebooting into "single user mode" and see if the problems exist. If they don't, you can use yum to reinstall important stuff.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I hate to say that won't work either; it gets me the same memory access error as usual.

As you have lost all package management your best option will be to reinstall fedora !

If there's no other way, I will probably have to do that - but I have a question about reinstalling. I once had to reinstall fc7, but I had to reconfigure a lot. Now updating a system seems less trouble, but I can't update my current fedora 8 since anaconda tells me all my packages are newer then on the dvd (makes sense). But a reinstall would mean I have to to the configuring again, as I recall.

Is there a more comfortable way than hitting install and ending up with a standard install? Something that replaces my packages with the ones on the dvd, leaving my configuration intact?

I had something like this this morning.. all I did was switch my network card from a generic one to the nvidia one that is on my motherboard.. after that firefox and yum worked.. so switch your network device or card.
