fast user switching like windows

Is it possible to hide a non-root user the same way the root user is invisible on the login screen? Also can you make it possible to run 2 users at once?

Sure, as root (su -), run 'gdmsetup' (or you can go there from System > Administration > Login Window. Then look at the Users tab for details. Just uncheck the default and edit a bit.

As to running two users at once, well you can log out and log in another user and still keep them both active, if that's what you mean. Much the same as Windows XP log out/switch user.

Under KDE, there is an option to switch users. It will lock your current X session, spawn a new kdm and allow a new user to log in. This works similar to fast user switching. I believe you have to run KDE and KDM for this to work.

not sure if it really helps, but in gnome theres a fast user switcher applet right beside the date on my install. I never used it yet since I only have 1 user account and the root account. Its called fast-user-switch-applet.

Thanks guys I just had to go
system - administration- login - window - local - and - switch it from themed to plain, fedora 8 seems to do fast user switching automatically if you lock screen and then choose to switch user although it does this annoying fade out thing for some reason.
