VERY Odd Gnome Keyring Problem

I've got an odd issue that began when I STOPPED using Network Manager for my wireless connection, and started using the Wireless Assistant.

The Wireless Assistant handles WPA/WPA2 WAY better than Network Manager, and it does not utilize the keyring. I believe the application saves the WPA2 key, as it only asked for it once, and never has again.

Problem:

Now, when I start Evolution and hit SEND/RECIEVE I am promted for the DEFAULT KEYRING Password.....

I DON'T HAVE a Default Keyring..........

I have gone to the hidden folder /.gnome2/Keyrings to attempt to DELETE the default.keyring, but the file is not there to be deleted.

If I CREATE a default keyring, no change occurs, the OS acts as if it isn't there.

I have installed PAM and configured it accordingly to try and resolve the issue, but to no avail.

And if it makes any difference, I now have to enter my password TWICE everytime I log into Fedora. No errors or anything, I just have to enter it twice......

System:
IBM T42 Laptop
Fedora Core 8
Kernel: 2.6.24.3-12
Nothing Special about the install other that it is strictly GNOME, no KDE.

And ideas???

Thanks and much appreciation!!

Perhaps unrelated, but would you mind updating that buggy kernel first ?

I have the same problem, but got there a different way. I changed my login password, but that didn't update the default keyring password. Now when I use Network Manager I have to use the old password to unlock the default keyring. Annoying extra step, but it works. I also can't find a "default.keyring" anywhere on my machine. How do I change the default keyring password to match my new login password?

Kernel 2.6.27.5-117
Gnome 2.24.2

Just a data point. I have the same problem (for the same reason, apparently) as kwatson. Changed the password, network manager wants the old one, user gets annoyed. Same kernel, too.

In F10, it uses the "login.keyring" not "default.keyring". Delete the login.keyring and log out and back in and see if that fixes it.

Re: VERY Odd Gnome Keyring Problem

Iron_Mike,

Thanks for the suggestion. I did that, but it created a new problem. Yes, the requirement to provide a different password for the default (login) keyring went away, but I could no longer authenticate to my Enterprise WPA2 wireless network. Network manager kept asking for a WEP password. I restored the login.keyring, logged out and in, and am at least back to where I was.
