Is this A:"It was working, but now it stopped" or B:"I just installed it and it has never worked" type of question? I can help you either waybut I will need details. gkrellfah2 should still be a viable monitor for today's standard folding clients - if not I can fix it.
Have you looked at the newer versions of Folding@home Monitors(GFHCM, GFHCMC/GFHCMD)?

Dr. Diesel,
I'm in Fort Wayne, and I've been to Terre Haute many time in the past.
OK, Answer the following questions so I can figure out how you have setup the monitor; as there are several ways it can be done.
1. What is the path to your folding directory? example: /home/youruserid/Folding/Client1
2. What is the folding client's executable name? example: FAH504-Linux.exe
3. How many folding clients do you run? example: one per CPU
4. How are your folding clients started? example: /etc/rc.local commands
5. What tools did you use to install the folding clients? example: none, or the instructions at the top of this howto!
6. On how many machines do you run want to run the client? example: more than one, or only one!
It normally takes a few forum exchanges to find and fix your problem; so please be patient and respond as quick as you want an answer. The ideal model is to let the monitors start/stop and log all work units, with no external assistance; i.e. they are designed to do it all.
Personally, I use the gfhcmc/gfhcmd combination to manage the six machines(duals) I have folding. I upgraded from the gkrellm/gkrellmd gkrellfah2 client/server configuration, and I still use the gkllremd/gkrellm tool as a system monitor.
(note to ajamison: gfhcm has been updated to include a view for the FAHlog.txt file: get version 0.1.9 or most recent.)

Thanks, I followed the directions on the first post:
1=folding dir= /home/fah/foldingathome/CPU1/ and /home/fah/foldingathome/CPU2/
2=FAH504-Linux.exe
3=2
4=directions above
5=dito
So far I only have it running on this Core 2, but I have a P4 that I might also fire up. Perhaps I should switch to the alternative you mentioned?

From finstall to GFHCMC/GFHCMD
Dr. Diesel,
I am really glad I asked those questions. It seems that gkrellfah2 is not compatible with the instructions from the top of this thread where the 'finstall' tool is used to setup the folding client. WHY: the finstall process creates a seperate userid "fah" and a init.d script "folding" which is used to sucessfully control the folding client{s}. Its assumed that your normal userid is not "fah", you would normally login using a different userid like "jscott" or something else. Well, Linux is very good a protecting users from one another files and resources -- this will cause the gkrellfah2 collection of plugins constant permission denied failures as it trys to access the files of the user "fah" from your regular userid. All gkrellfah2 modules run user your normal userid and would have this permissions problem. gkrellfah2 userid must be the same userid that the fah clients are running under.
Two ways around this for gkrellfah2 modules:
note: effectively move the folding userid to your own userid by moving its files over.
1. mv /home/fah/foldingathome /home/YOUR-USER-ID/
1b. also remove/rename the /etc/init.d/folding file so it will never run again. '$ /sbin/service folding off' would also do it
1c. $ chmod -R youruserid:youruserid /home/YOUR-USER-ID/foldingathome
2. Configure gkrellfah2 using /home/YOUR-USER-ID/foldingathome/CPU1 as a base directory ...
2b. The newer GFHCM program works well in this environment where fah userid = your userid.
OR
For GFHCMC client and GFHCMD daemon
1. turn off the folding init.d script "$ /sbin/chkconfig folding off"
2. Install gfhcmd rpm (fc6 assumed); note fc6 user must install from source rpm or bz2 tarball
3. edit /etc/gfhcmd.conf (configuration file) edit paths, and executable name, and mp_count=2
4. edit /etc/init.d/gfhcmd (init.d script) -- find "youruserid" replace with "fah" (cause we didn't move those files)
5. start it up: "$ /sbin/service gfhcmd start" ( check 'tail /var/log/messages' to make sure it starts )
6. install gfhcmc client rpm -- installs an icon in Panel.Application.System Tools.GFHCMC
7. configure it: goto preferences tab and press add button, click enable buttons, verify hostnames (double-click value to change it)
8. DONE.
One GFHCMC client can monitor and unlimited number of GFHCMD daemons. So Install the daemon everywhere and press the add button on the client, put in their correct hostnames, and off you go.
Try me on AOL instant messenger is you like. AOL ID "jscott000"

O.K. crew... It is starting to look like I may have to go downstairs in the basement again, and pull out a few more servers to keep my edge against "Morodock"... I will make it happen when I have some time to rearrange some things...
Is it wrong that I have to keep reminding myself that this isn’t a competition... lol...
It is for a good cause after all... Ohh, who I'm a kidding... Dr. Alexi Zarkov is going down!!!...

P.S. - Please know that my comments above are to be interpreted "all in good fun"...

Gnome Folding client
Just an FYI, something I came across for those of you who want to monitor your folding progress in GNOME.
http://www.ruudbeukema.nl/index.php?page=fag_applet
I haven't had a chance to try it as I don't leave any of my computers with Fedora running. Let me know what you think and maybe I'll get into this folding stuff.
