what means i586 and i686 in kernel names ??

Hi : to fix problem reported in 121819 I was told to go to
http://fedoranews.org/updates/FEDORA-2004-137.shtml

and from there go to

http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pu...pdates/2/i386/

and download a kernel update.

I find 2 kernels here :
kernel-2.6.6-1.427.i586.rpm and kernel-2.6.6-1.427.i686.rpm

Now..what's the difference between these two ?? which update should I download ??

Thank you
Copter

A pentium class computer is a i586...and P2/P3/P4 are considered i686( this includes celerons and something else...Pentium Pro)

what are your computer's stats??
if you have a relatively new computer you should use i686 because it has better optimizations for newer CPUs and will run faster

Both versions of the kernel should work fine because they are both x86
