Gdesklets-Goodweather sudden failure

This week, I've noticed that the Goodweather gdesklet has stopped working on any distro I'm using. I wonder if Weather.com has changed it's engine? Might have to look for a replacement, I suppose. Any suggestions?

Dang! Now I'll have to look out the window to see what's happening! Ah no! Not necessary at all! I checked Weather.com and they have a cute little toolbar for Firefox that has at least the current and next day's weather, which is all you can really count on anyway. Yes, I have to launch a browser, but that's a normal for me anyway.

There's also a Gnome panel applet that is still working. [Weather Report 2.16.0.1 (This is an older version for FC6)]

Yeah, I removed GDesklets from my machine ages ago and just use the Gnome Panel weather applet... I'm looking forward to the international time/weather applet in F9!

You can get it working again by adding "&link=xoap" to the end of the definition for WEATHER_SOURCE in ~/.gdesklets/Sensors/GoodWeather/__init__.py and then restarting the desklet.

The instructions son't work for either Smoothweather or Clearweather, and the Goodweather site is down. Will try later.

Well naturally you just have to find the right place where the URI is set, and add the "&link=xoap" where it makes sense (for instance just before another '&').

For instance, ClearWeatherScreenlet.py has "data = urlopen('http..." on lines 144 and 170, and sticking "&link=xoap" right after "&prod=xoap" should fix it (although I can't test it because of python dependency issues).

I'm sure the authors are working on updates, assuming they're still being maintained.

OK. That did it. It's not showing the six-day, but might later, and it's still a tad unhappy about being on all desktops without my toggling it, but I can live with that. Thanx!

I have the same issue. But for me it started a week or so ago. I keep getting the "loading" indication. Has weather.com changed something?

Just as a follow-up for anyone running Fedora 10, there is a gdeskets-goodweather in the repos now. While there is an initial reading for the default goodweather screen, the 'fix' mentioned here doesn't work properly and any restart will cause goodweather to go back to "?". Also, "__init__.py" is now located in /usr/share.

So, I've removed it and simply installed the .tar.gz from here: http://gdesklets.zencomputer.ca/ , left it in my /home/username when installing it and then used the 'fix' and everything works properly once more.
