Installing codecs, plugins and nvidia driver

I recently installed Fedora 9 and tried to follow all the instructions listed at http://www.firewing1.com/content/blogcategory/39/52/ . Firstly, I followed the instructions for configuring yum to use the livna repo and that went fine. Then I went for the graphics card driver and after entering
Code:
yum install kmod-nvidia-96xx xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-96xx
in the terminal, I get

Code:
Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit
Setting up Install Process
Parsing package install arguments
No package kmod-nvidia-96xx available.
No package xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-96xx available.
Nothing to do
which I put down to what firewing1 has on his blog about kmod-nvidia packages not being compatible with F9.

However, I get the same problem when I try to install the codecs, plugins etc. Does anyone know what the problem is?

I'd be very grateful for any help.

Here's a guide that should help you along.

http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mjm-fedora-f9.html

Nvidia have no driver working yet. You can use it without 3D, but you have to use a little hack. Is a thread here that has the info you need. I'll edit my post if I can find it. nv and nouveau should also work.

Hi YeOK, thank you for your help. The instructions from that link for installing browser plugins, media playback etc. are very similar to firewing1's and they also use the livna repository which doesn't seem to have the packages when I try to install. Got any ideas why that is?

Regarding the nvidia driver: I'll just wait until something compatible with F9 is released.

Thanks again .

Everything I use from Livna is working. Did you get any errors, what packages?

I know they are busy over at livna, so are a little behind on a few things.

Hi YeOK,

I reinstalled F9 and am now able to dowload and install all the codecs, plugins etc. from the livna repo. I'm not sure why I couldn't get things working after the first install. I see there are some nvidia drivers in the livna repo testing and development directories, but I'm just going to wait for the final versions.

Thanks again .

Probably too many users, it happens around release week.

I'm using the Livna-Testing Nvidia drivers. They work fine without 3d. You do have to change how Xorg is started though, so probably best to wait. I don't think it will be too long.
