No video in Mplayer (but i get the sound)

Hi,

I just installed MPlayer, with the gnome-mplayer package for the GUI. I installed the w32 codecs in the directory /usr/local/lib/codecs. Now, when I want to play a video, whether it be on the net or in the GUI interface, I get the sound, but no picture. The window resizes itself as it should, but instead of getting a picture, it is a grey background and it never changes. I tried to change the video output settings in Edit -> Preferences, but no option that is there seems to do it for me, I can't get a picture. Help please?
