I installed Fedora 9 on a desktop 2 days ago. It booted fine into X and I had no issues until after I ran a Yum update. After that, and the system reboot, after starting udev the display would turn off and would not come back. I tried to go to a tty (shift alt F1) and no luck. I could no longer connect with ssh either.
Since it was a clean install, I figured I may as well just reinstall. A clean install does the same thing. I finally just did a base install which started in runlevel 3, and it booted to the login prompt just fine. When I attempted to switch to runlevel 5, the display died and nothing again.
THinking it might be a hardware failure, I installed CentOS. This came up fine to the GDM login prompt and all seemed well. I did a yum update there as well and it was fine.
I reinstalled Fedora 9 again. Same issue again.
I cleared the CMOS and rebooted--- same issue.
I cleared the CMOS again, reinstalled-- same issue.
