Fedora 9 Automatic Login Problem

Hi all

I've installed F9 on a 4GB USB stick. Works fine except I can only login using the Automatic Login screen. How do I get to log in as root or as a specific user?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi
when use say installed on a usb stick, im assuming you have installed f9 live with persistant data, you do not need to log in as root as you are automatcally granted acces root privalages you do not need a password.
However if you want to create a new user System ->Adminstration-> Users and Groups you can and to change automatic login

Yes I've installed F9 Live with persistent data.

I need to be able to log in as root to use the file system to delete a /etc/pulse/daemon.config swop file created in error using vim in a terminal while trying to get Skype audio to work. Deletion via the file system isn't allowed as an automatic login-assigned Fedora Live user.

If there's no simpler solution than the ones outlined in your link - for which many thanks - it would probably be quicker and safer for me to reinstall F9 Live.

Your first method listed on your web site works like a charm. Excellent advice!

I've been trying to get this done for my father-in-law who's 84 years old and who's challenged by computers. Many, many thanks for helping me introduce him to the wonderful world of computers!
