odd wireless behavior

Hi folks

I'm using FC8 with kernel 2.6.25.6-27.fc8

I've also installed madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6-r3698-20080604 per the directions at http://home.nyc.rr.com/computertaiju...ml%235007#5007

The forum turned me on to the above instructions.

I've previously been using FC8 + kernel 2.6.23.1-42.fc8 + madwifi-ng-r2756+ar5007 (which I think I got per the instructions at the above url, but I can't recall for sure)

I've noticed something strange using the new kernel and I don't understand it.

Every couple of minutes (I'm guessing) the wireless connections stop transferring data. Network Manager does NOT indicate I've been disconnected. Pinging my isp's help server hangs, sometimes it times out, but usually it just sits there.

After a bit of time, wireless traffic resumes. I don't do anything. Network Manager doesn't give any errors/warnings/pop up messages. But all of a sudden I can browse websites and ping can hit the outside world. In addition, I've even seen a hung ping all of the sudden start sending/receiving data.

I know nothing about networking - can anyone guess why this is going on or how I can stop it?

Is my wireless card getting hung up broadcasting something?

Mark

That sound similar to something I'm seeing.

I'm running fedora 9 with the latest kernel update, and when I start firefox, sometimes it hangs and doesn't respond for about a minute, then works normally the rest of the time. I have NOT tracked it to wireless, and belive it does the same thing wired.

I get no indication that the network traffic is stopped... I'll see if I can find out more about this and if other network access is also stopped when this happens.
