mail server set up errors

using the below guide on how to, I got this far and had errors

[root@espana ssl]# telnet localhost 25

250-STARTTLS
250 HELP

it then hans and I have to type quit to exit, acording to the how to I should see the lines

250-STARTTLS

and

250-AUTH LOGIN PLAIN

then all should be fine.

I dont so I guess I may have a problem, I just dont know what the problemis
