Thumbs up Firefox 3.1 beta RPMs available

Here's Firefox RPMs & SRPM for Fedora 9, based on the latest Firefox beta "3.1b1pre", taken from mercurial checkout.

I've been messing with the font libs, so who wants to be the first guinea pig to confirm they work on "vanilla" F9?

The reason for hacking these RPMs together is the instability of Fedora 9's firefox, e.g. Flash making 64-bit Firefox crash on the Skoda homepage.

I would suggest making a backup of ~/.mozilla/ before trying this, to be on the safe side - this is bleeding-edge code after all

    Hi brebs:

"Vanilla" F9? Not sure mine qualifies, but I'll sure give it a shot. Machine #2.

I'm curious whether my freetype upgrade makes my future RPMs tainted: Edit: I mean "tainted" as in "not working" - nothing to do with licensing
    Code:
    $ rpm -q freetype
    freetype-2.3.7-3.fc9.x86_64
    freetype-2.3.7-3.fc9.i386
    Rather than freetype-2.3.5-6.fc9

Well, so far, so good. Here's the relevant packages and such as far as I know:
    Code:
    ~]$ uname -a
    Linux micron-pc-rb.localdomain 2.6.26.3-29.fc9.i686 #1 SMP Wed Sep 3 03:42:27 EDT 2008 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
~]$ rpm -q firefox xulrunner jre freetype
    firefox-3.0.1.20080918-1.fc9.i386
    xulrunner-1.9.0.1-1.fc9.i386
    jre-1.6.0_10-beta.i586
    freetype-2.3.5-6.fc9.i386
That Skoda page loads fine - no crash or otherwise that I can tell, but this is x86, not x64_64.

    HTH,
    V

P.S. I know nothing about the freetype RPMs and licensing.

The Skoda homepage crashed on 64-bit but was OK on 32-bit when I tried it in F9's Firefox. There's a bug on the firefox bugzilla mentioning it (I don't normally browse another country's Skoda site), but of course I can't find it now that I want it.

Funnily enough, I created firefox-3.0.2.20081008-1.fc9.src.rpm a week ago, but reverted back because it's too new for the useful firefox plugins like Tab Mix Plus and Adblock Plus to be compatible with them (didn't bother attempting to disable the compatibility check).

It's now there (but in the old/ subdir, out of the way) if you want to compile it yourself, but I'd recommend sticking to firefox-3.0.2.20080925-2.

I've added firefox-3.0.3.20081015-1 RPMs. Is actually version "3.1b2pre". Works with latest Adblock Plus, but not Greasemonkey (yet).

Nope. Easy to create it yourself if you want it What's so important about beta1? My RPM is a more recent snapshot.

Maybe I should make the version in the filename more obvious.

Hey brebs, You updated the firefox srpm allrite but didnt create the 32 bit binary for the newer 28 october src. I think yuo messed up ur dates and versions plz do check or else can we plz have 32 bit 28-10 binary rpms. I would have built it myself but it asks for gecko dependencies which i am not sure how to resolve.

I'm just lazy. 64-bit is my main PC, so that's what I focus on. The srpms are there, so compile them yourself

If you're "not sure", then show an error message.
